"The grass is greener here"

About Us

Welcome BG (WBG) is an initiative of inclusion that recognizes differences between people and acknowledges this diversity as a valued asset. Welcome BG believes diversity and inclusion are a critical starting point for building respect and engagement across sometimes isolated and fragmented communities. Diversity takes into account but is not limited to race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, language, age, ethnicity, ability, physical and mental health status, sex, socioeconomic status and national origin.

Our Mission

To continue to develop and promote Bowling Green as a  welcoming, safe and inclusive community for everyone including immigrants, new Americans and people of diverse backgrounds.

Our Strategic Areas
  •  Economic Development
  • Living and Thriving
  • Sustainability.

Our History
Welcome BG was a result of passed resolution 3662  by The City of Bowling Green's city council proclaiming  Bowling Green as a welcoming and safe community for immigrants and condemning any discrimination, harassment or unjustified deportation of immigrant residents of Bowling Green. The resolution is available in 9 languages (Arabic, Chinese, German, Hindi, Korean, Italian, Spanish, Telugu and Vietnamese).
The Welcome BG Task Force, linked to the Human Relations Commission, was the City's big step towards understanding what a "Welcoming BG" would look like and the impact it could have in securing its own vitality. Following researching and engaging with stakeholders and various sectors, gathering data and interviewing immigrants, holding community conversations and identifying needs and barriers, the task force delivered the report and recommendations in June 2018. The logo was designed with the word Welcome in 17 languages.
Welcome BG was officially launched in September 2019.
